• My Horsey Bestie, Tatanka (Horse Tales, Pt. 1)

Last week we went to Tumbling River Ranch in Grant, CO. Initially, the plan was to write about the horse I was paired with, but the trip was rich with insights that I decided to write a few Horse Tale installments. I couldn’t pick one focus, so I decided to write a few different things and spread them out. I’m being punny with the “tale” portion of this, but I’m totally serious when I say that this is one of our better trips. We had an awesome time, including our teens who half-heartedly agreed to the dude ranch trip. 🤷🏻‍♀️ With that said, they’d wholeheartedly go back. Today’s installment is…

  • western dog mug with cowboy hat, vest, bandana, and eye patch in front of a wooden barn door

    There’s a new sheriff in town…

I just received the most awesome mug! M sent me this super cute cowboy doggie with an eyepatch. It’s big, it reheats well, did I mention it has a sheriff-like doggie on it? It’s hitting all the right notes ❤️🐕🤠 She said it made her think of my dogs, lol. They’re going to be jealous if they catch me gazing at this cute fella like I do when I’m using it. What’s even funnier about this guy is the eyepatch–there’s a story behind that. The first time I met M in person we were on a retreat. The room situation was odd because we were staying in a house that…

  • A Ray of Sunshine

This mug! It makes me smile. There are a couple of stories behind it. The first one–I like to sleep in complete darkness which makes going out into the sunlight a squinty affair. For that reason, my dad used to call me Sunshine first thing in the morning when I was a little kid. I was squinty. Sometimes I was less than sunshiny. He, of course, had been up for hours finding my morning slothfulness a good source of entertainment. Me, not so much. The other is my habit of telling people (okay, fine–my family), “I’m a ray of sunshine.” I tease them that I’m delightful. 😁 But the funniest…

  • Wrangler's Jeans Tag

    This Tag

I mentioned our dude ranch vacation and my riding boots taking a tour of Phoenix in Friday’s Tomfoolery a couple of weeks ago. Well, I ordered riding jeans, too. I’m feeling very City Slickers about the whole thing, but I’m also feeling like this is a necessarily evil. Showing butt crack just isn’t pleasant. For real, and for no person involved. Personally, I want to be comfortable and don’t want to expose myself. Besides, I have a thing about showing skin–okay on others not on me. (Of course, butt crack is the exception for all. Sorry plumbers, handymen, and cute women who think that doesn’t apply to them. Butt crack…

    Little Piggy Dreams

Last night, I went to bed early. I have sleep issues, always have, so going to bed early usually means massive headache or I’m sick. This time, it happened to be a little bit of both. I don’t normally take things, but I took an Advil PM–this means bad news, people. Bad. I finally fell asleep and didn’t wake up a bunch of times like I usually do. Super nice. However, I had crazy morning dreams. Do you ever have those? The ones where you’re frantically trying to get somewhere or there’s a cast of dream characters who don’t look like the people they represent. There’s always some bizarre event…

  • The Mystery Woman

I have a friend, M, who was recently interviewed on a podcast. Her’s is a tale of growing up biracial and it was all the feels–funny, interesting, with moments of sadness. Her story’s a good one– and like her story, she’s funny, interesting, but kind (unlike many of the people she grew up with). What I really loved about the interview was how M came full circle to her state’s motto–Wild and Wonderful, West Virginia. How all these good, bad, and ugly aspects and the things she tried to get away from were the very things that made her who she is–wild and wonderful. While there are many, many things…
