All is not as it seems

Hello, Friday Fools!

Friday Tomfoolery update: the print edition is available at major retailers! It's a print on demand so it'll take a couple of extra days when you order. I'll have copies available on my website in a few weeks 🤞🏼 I received my "proof" copy, Tuesday. Really, it's a single copy I had to purchase because they do all the proofs digitally.

I have some things to say about this--I went back and forth about the physical formatting. It looked great in the digital proof and I was thrilled. I ordered the single copy and was simultaneously thrilled to hold it in my hand and disappointed--everything shifted and the color wasn't the same. It doesn't look bad, it's just not what I expected. People, the purple is bleached out of it! 🤦🏻‍♀️ #purpleclan #purpleriders It's more orange/pink/brown. Still pretty, but not the same. There are other things, but I'm shooting for "brevity," today.

Ultimately, I chose not to fix it because my digital world is a hot mess and that's no joke. I have other reasons, but I'll write a blog post about them. I need a Marie Kondo of the tech world to whip me into shape. She can stay away from my pens, notebooks, and office miscellanea, however. I'm serious. I'm in a mood where if anyone messes with that stuff I might just threaten them with my big old-fashioned steel scissors. It'd be all bark no bite, but I'd still brandish them. I'll be the first to admit that my digital organization is a disaster. Look away if you have OCD or are anal about your files. I have failed you. After creating file after file to make sure the book formatted correctly I failed to rename the "final" final file in a way that I knew it was actually the final file for print (vs. digital)--there were a lot of files that were "final," yet rejected by Ingram for one reason or another. I have a heap of final files and am afraid that the wrong one will be uploaded with errors.

That's that bit of sad business, and on to something else...

You might've seen these perps on Instagram. Big Monkey (Max) is an official AZ state driver. He had his license all of two days before the 2003 Mini Cooper overheated on his way back from an errand. "She Runs Hot" by Little Village is the song I'm dedicating to this event, and pretty much this whole week. Thank you, Mars retrograde. It was a good thing Monkey and Chia (Stuart) were together--to hear him tell the story you'd think that sky had fallen (wonder where he got that drama from? 🙄). It's also not the first time someone has run up to me about a car smoking or on fire (Seriously! That's a story for another time). That poor car poured steam out for a long time and wasn't drivable by the end of their outing... A little visit to the car shop has started a car pack chain reaction (Get it dog people? When one of the pack gets sick, they all get sick for preservation purposes 🤓😉).

It feels like some sort of portal has opened up--it's a revolving door at the mechanic's for our household. I think he should start a punch card system or a fleet discount for us. At least let me ride his horses, lol. 🐎 The Mini had to be towed on Tuesday--it was undrivable. Chief picked it up Wednesday and left his car for a tune-up. Yesterday we picked up his car and took my car in for something big and ugly that we've been putting off. Revolving door. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ At least no one was hurt, stranded, or in an accident.

The shenanigans were long and hard this week, but that's all she wrote, my friends. It'd be a block-long newsletter and I don't even have the 50 foot emojis to blame 😅. Thanks, again, for hanging around for it all. Enjoy the song. I hope you enjoyed the driving dogs last week! 🐕🚙 Who knew that would be kind of prophetic?

For those of you in the middle of fires or breathing in smoke in the surrounding areas--be safe and take care. For those of you battling who knows what, be gentle with yourself.

I hope everyone is well and that you find something funny, curious, or thought-provoking to brighten your days, especially in these crazy times.

Take care!

~Ami
