What do badgers and monkeys have in common?🦡🐵 The college addition: View online
All is not as it seems

Hello, Friday Fools!

To make up for last week's epic newsletter and my digital road to madness as I'm now coining it (sounds so fancy), my King Ranch mentions this month will be briefer. I started with "brief" but changed it knowing that brevity is just not my forte. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I know it's a relief for Chief and few other readers. However, when I officially lose my mind, trace it back to those weeks I mentioned...

So what do badgers and monkeys have in common? I'm off to Madison, WI to take Monkey to school. That's what Badgers and Monkeys have in common. He had applied to a handful of schools, and despite the small amount of applications, I kept getting Minnesota and Wisconsin mixed up. I so rudely asked every time (for a brief period), "So which rodent school is that?" Terrible. Go ahead and shake your collective heads at me. I know that Wisconsin are the Badgers, I've known that. There are a lot of Badgers in our family, on Chief's side. I kept getting the programs he was applying for mixed up and applying it to the wrong university. Then I took to calling the Badgers, "Ill tempered rodents" because I thought it was funny.

Look at that mascot in the middle of the magazine and tell me he doesn't look just a mite ill-tempered?

Kicker is--they aren't even in the rodent family. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Not funny and wrong to boot. I could probably find another thing to throw myself under the bus for and make it a hat trick, but I'll spare you.

And since we're "writing checks" left and right so Monkey can go off to college, I will take this moment to digress (love digressions) and add something sweet that Chief did for me. He ordered us new checks with the Mandalorian on them! I showed him the ad in the Costco magazine and kept asking how I could work this into a newsletter, lol. He ordered them a month later without telling me. See? Super sweet, in spite of the financial trauma of college. My desire to run out and write a bunch of checks was frowned upon...so back to "rodents" we go.

One night when we were having dinner alone, Chief and I entertained ourselves talking about mascots. After asking what I kept calling the Badgers, which I'm kind of surprised that I forgot, I said, "Wouldn't it be epic if one of the boys went to a school with a squirrel as a mascot? Do you think there's even a squirrel mascot?" Why yes, yes there is. 🐿😂 No surprise, there's one in Scotland. Big surprise, there's an American seminary school with one. I told Chief that made me want to go back to school and get another degree, just so I can legit wear the squirrel T-shirt. Or not (see ⬆️ being frowned up for "check writing").

I'm going to leave you with a link to an Atlas Obscura podcast--wait for it--The white squirrel of Prospect Park🐿😂 and this video I took at the High Desert Museum in Oregon. Badgers are actually part of the same family as otters. Don't ever say that I don't share "real" info 😄 Clearly, we're entertained by the otters. I chose the "lesser" of the clips because it was shorter--wait for their chatter at the end. If you'd like to see one of the better videos, just hit reply and I'll send them to you.

Since we're sending Monkey off to college, my Tomfoolery wouldn't be complete without at least one pregnancy story: the time I crawled through the doggie door, pregnant with Monkey. You can read that on the blog. The most recent blogs posts are also listed below.

With that, I hope everyone is well and that you find something funny, curious, or thought-provoking to brighten your days. 🤠

Take care and thanks for reading The Friday Tomfoolery.
