Things I Wouldn’t Hate to do: MoonPie edition

I just saw a post about the MoonPie General Store…
Y’all. I’ve added it to the list of Things I Wouldn’t Hate To Do. I enjoy me a mercantile/general store and I really like MoonPies.
So there’s that.
I don’t know when I had my first MoonPie and didn’t know how popular they were for a long, long time. I grew up in the PNW not seeing any that I can recall. Hostess was the mass produced sweet treat we had. I loved Ho-Ho’s and Ding Dongs–and before you say anything, the shape provides a different eating experience even if the ingredients are the same. 🤨
Just ask any fan.
At any rate, I love the enthusiasm and excitement of people who grew up with MoonPies. But I also enjoy hearing people talk about their comfort foods as well as foods that remind them of their childhoods. In fact, I have sheriff O’Donnell reminiscing about food with Mrs. Johansson toward the end of book 1 (I kind of forgot about that… )
Such nostalgia–the good, bad, and the ugly. 😉
Speaking of nostalgia, I drank RC Cola as a kid. It was one of my favorite sodas followed closely by root beer, Dr. Pepper, and cream soda. Apparently, the pairing is RC and MoonPie 😮
Who knew?
I’m down with that.
When I saw this article about the MoonPie general store, I felt like someone was sharing their childhood as well as some special nostalgia with me. Like it was a private peek into another “world.” Because, unless you know someone or traveled to an area where something very special and regional was produced and eaten/just “happened upon” some specialty, you wouldn’t know about these delights without the internet.
So, it’s funny that the internet brought me to this place (where you can totally order something online, not to mention that MoonPies have had a greater distribution for years) and I’m turning around and endorsing a road trip/air travel to get them!
It’s the journey. And the experience adds a lot. Also, please note: mercantile. I have a special place in my heart for mercantiles and not just because that’s where Charlie “found” Annabelle in book 1.

I whole heartedly endorse the MoonPie and RC Cola combo, despite my current belief that all sweets need a hot beverage to wash them down.
So, about that MoonPie mercantile or perhaps, another mercantile? 🤨
Anyone game? 😁 Where are your special snacks located?
